What says that it only works in making the time in the real world pass faster? That’s not how the Abyss works. Abyss messes up time overall, so for years to have passed in the Abyss and Alice getting thrown out of it not so long after Lacie was thrown in isn’t impossible. Time basically does whatever it wants in there.
